We warmly invite you to Melbourne for the ASSBI 50th Conference, to be held from 6-8 May 2027 at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins.

The conference theme, From Legacy to Impact: 50 Years of Practice, Progress and Possibility, recognises ASSBI's 50-year legacy while inviting contributions that demonstrate how knowledge, practice and lived experience can create meaningful impact now and into the future.

We welcome contributions that honour the foundations of the field, examine current advances and open new possibilities for research, rehabilitation, inclusion and participation after brain impairment.

Conference Program

Six half-day workshops will be held on Thursday 6 May 2027. A broad range of presentations from international and national speakers will take place on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 May 2027. The program will include platform presentations, practical How-To sessions, Datablitz presentations, posters, lived-experience sessions, student-focused activities, keynotes, panels and networking events.

Invitation to submit

You are invited to submit an abstract for a 15-minute oral platform presentation, a 5-minute Datablitz presentation plus poster, a 30-minute How-To session, or a poster presentation.

ASSBI is a multidisciplinary society and encourages submissions from researchers, clinicians, students, service providers, community contributors, and people with lived experience. Submissions are welcome from disciplines and sectors including neuropsychology, clinical psychology, speech pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, exercise physiology, service coordination, disability services, education, policy and community practice.

Abstracts covering all facets of understanding, assessing, treating, supporting and living with brain impairment are encouraged. The committee welcomes work across the lifespan and from diverse populations and contexts, including clinical, research, translational, educational, service development, community and lived-experience informed work. Contributors are encouraged to consider how their work advances practice, progress, possibility or impact. This may include evidence translation, participation and inclusion, culturally responsive practice, Indigenous brain health, rural and regional access, technology, measurement, neuroethics, implementation, workforce development or multidisciplinary models of care. These examples are intended as prompts rather than restrictions.

Presentation Formats

Platform Presentation - Platform presentations are 15-minute oral presentations scheduled with other thematically related papers. They are suitable for research findings, clinical innovations, service developments, theoretical contributions, education, policy or lived-experience informed projects.

How-To Session - How-To sessions are concise, practice-focused presentations designed to provide delegates with applied and clinically relevant content. Sessions should include clear learning objectives and identify the intended audience and level of experience. For topics requiring more in-depth skills training or interactive learning, presenters may consider submitting a Workshop EOI.

Datablitz Presentation - Datablitz sessions include a 5-minute oral presentation plus a poster. They are suited to focused findings, emerging projects, preliminary data, clinical initiatives or concise service development
