Synopsis of session:
‘After my brain injury I had to learn everything all over again, even the simplest and automatic activities such as walking and talking'. Learning is a central theme in the rehabilitation of people with acquired brain injuries such as stroke or traumatic brain injury. Rehabilitation is relearning old skills, learning new skills, learning to compensate for, live with, deal with and manage the (neuropsychological) consequences of brain damage. Learning to adapt to a changed life is probably the most challenging experience people with brain damage and their informal caregivers need to face in their lives.
Learning can be considered from many different perspectives. From a neuropsychological point of view, the brain-behaviour relationship is leading in the development of rehabilitation programs. Many evidence-based neuropsychological rehabilitation programs are available. However, learning can and should be considered from different perspectives as it is multi-factorial in nature. In this webinar learning after brain injury will be discussed from different perspectives.
