Working together to improve the lives of people with brain impairment

Professional Development Programme - Workshops

The Workshop Programme for 2018 is evolving as we go this year.  Don't forget if you want to propose a workshop email Margaret or Miriam Poole and we'll see what we can do to assist

You are also invited to purchase two prior ASSBI Workshops as MP4 video files

If you are looking to become an approved NDIS provider, you are encouraged to attend a workshop in October or November this year delivered by ASSBI and Shine Lawyers. Attendees will be given guidance on planning their NDIS supports and the written agreements required for delivery.  Our experienced speakers will look at participants’ rights and the interaction with NDIS.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new system of disability support rolled out across Australian in July 2016. As with any significant change or introduction of a new scheme, there are more questions than answers at this early stage prompting the need for this workshop. Key learnings will be passed on to ultimately help people with disabilities, their families and carers.

NDIS is joint funded and governed by Australia and participating States and Territory Governments.  If implemented well the scheme will substantially improve the wellbeing of people with disability by encouraging and assisting them to maximise their independence and to have a voice. Everyone has a fundamental right to have their needs fairly assessed and reviewed when applying for support from NDIS. October’s information session will discuss eligibility criteria, talk through an individual’s rights of review and explore when a decision becomes reviewable both internally and through a tribunal. Attendees will also be given guidance and tips for working with the NDIS.

The workshop is designed to provide invaluable advice on what steps are required and what assistance may be available at key stages of a participant’s NDIS journey – ensuring all avenues are taken full advantage of when seeking financial assistance and support.

We hope to see you there!
