Privacy Statement Collection and use of personal Information Information provided to engage the services of ASSBI If you choose to subscribe to mailing lists, the Australasian Society for the Study of Brain Impairment (ASSBI) will collect personally identifiable information, such as your e-mail address, name, home or work address or telephone number.  This information is used to deliver the services you have requested. ASSBI also uses your personally identifiable information to inform you of other products or services available from ASSBI and its affiliates. ASSBI may also contact you via surveys to conduct research about your opinion of current services or of potential new services that may be offered. ASSBI does not sell, rent or lease its customer lists to third parties. It may, however, share data with trusted partners to send you email or postal mail, provide customer support, or arrange for deliveries. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to ASSBI and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information. ASSBI will not otherwise disclose your personal information without your consent unless otherwise authorised by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on ASSBI or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of ASSBI; and, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of ASSBI, or the public. Personal information collected through ASSBI websites which is no longer required by ASSBI and which need not be retained by law will be destroyed. Information provided to give feedback to ASSBI ASSBI provides feedback facilities on its website to allow users to provide input into the future development of its websites and comment on the current sites. Users must provide ASSBI with a name and email address for the purpose of receiving a reply to their feedback. This information will only be used for the purpose for which it was provided and your name and email address will not be added to any mailing list by ASSBI. Information provided in public forums Information that you disclose in online forums or other interactive media is considered by ASSBI and the common law to be public information and may therefore not be subject to protection under the Act.  Please keep in mind that if you directly disclose personally identifiable information or personally sensitive data through ASSBI public message boards, this information may be collected and used by others.   Information collected automatically ASSBI may collect personal information and other data from you through the use of a Cookie or other automated means including server logs. A Cookie is a packet of data that a website puts on your computer's hard disk to identify you as a visitor to that website. The information collected by ASSBI through Cookies and other means may include: your server address; your domain name; your IP address; the date and time of your visit; the pages accessed and documents downloaded; the previous site visited; the type of browser you used. You may choose to disallow Cookies through your web browser settings. The information that is automatically collected during each visit to a ASSBI website is aggregated by ASSBI with similar logged information. This aggregated information may be published by ASSBI in internal reports to assist ASSBI identify patterns of website usage and to improve and maintain the service of ASSBI websites and any services offered. Aggregated information does not identify individual users and does not include personal information. Security of Personal Information ASSBI secures your personal information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. ASSBI secures the personally identifiable information you provide on computer servers in a controlled, secure environment, protected from unauthorised access, use or disclosure. When personal information (such as a credit card number) is transmitted to other Web sites, it is protected through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. Access to your Personal Information You have a right to access your personal information held by ASSBI. You can also request amendment to that information if you believe that it is incorrect or make complaints about the information handling practices of ASSBI or breaches of your privacy by ASSBI.
